The Council of Australian University Museums and Collections (CAUMAC) was formed in 1992 to represent university museums and collections for better recognition and support from both higher education institutions and the broader museum sector and beyond. Since the early 2000s CAUMAC has been a national network of the Australian Museums and Galleries Association (AMaGA).
CAUMAC aims to cultivate a strong community of practice and provide practical support for those working within university museums and collections.
Represent the interests of university museums and collections to university leadership, government, communities, and other interested stakeholders.
Position university museums and collections as essential cultural and intellectual infrastructure that support teaching, learning, research, and community engagement within their institutions.
Facilitate sharing of best practices, knowledge and innovation, among university museums and collections.
Create opportunities for collaboration among university museums and collections professionals to evolve collective impact.
With the aim of strengthening its ability to support the sector, CAUMAC will soon launch a new chapter as an independent association. Retaining its strong links with AMaGA, CAUMAC will continue to work closely with our sector partners, including ICOM-UMAC, to best serve our members from across Australia.
CAUMAC is volunteer run, and we encourage our members and supporters to help build a strong and supportive community of practice within the university museums and collections sector with us.
